The small separation inside an aluminium frame that changes how heat moves through it.

A separation inside the frame

Aluminium conducts heat readily. A thermal break places an insulating material between the internal and external sections of a metal frame, reducing the direct path for heat transfer.

One part of the window

The frame works together with glazing, spacers and seals. A thermal break improves the frame's thermal resistance, but does not establish the performance of the complete window on its own.

Start with the complete specification

When discussing an opening, bring its dimensions, opening type and glazing requirements. Ask for the whole-window thermal value for that configuration so the comparison reflects the window you intend to use.
